Trench router

The double row trench router was developed together with the firm Lang in Germany. The firm lang already held a patenten on the single trench router model. In order to work faster and to allow the machine to perform an extra task, FarmaX decided to work together and develop this product.

How are asparagus sown?

It all begins with one seed. For the planting of 1 hectacre of asparagus I ca. 750 grams os seed needed. These seeds are planted by professional growers. They are planted in mid march with seeders and are harvested a year later at the beginning of april. These one year old plants are than transferred to the places where the asparagus are delivered. They are placed in ridges at a depth of roughly 25 cm. There is a spacing of 160 centimetre between the rows. Per hectacre asparagus are roughly 18.000 plants needed.

The plants produce for roughly 8-9 years asparagus. In the first year the plant  does not produce any asparagus. In the second year of the plants life  there exists only one week where the harvesting of the plan t takes place. In the third year harvesting takes place until the 1st of June. From this point onward harvesting takes place regularly till its 9th year. After 9 years the plants are destroyed. After the destruction of the plants it is no longer possible to produce any asparagus for  ca. 25 years. If this does happen then the plants will suffer from a lower production output.

What does the trench router do?

The trench router is used to create  the trenches that are needed in th forst year. Due to the fact that the machine now is able to make two trenches at the same time it possible to use the same machin e to harvest the one year plants and the start of the second year.

Working

During the creating of trenches, the firm Lang encountered many problems with stones in the ground. In order to bypass this problem they decided to allow the blades to make a rotary motion. The single row machine developed by Lang showed that the rotation problem solved the problem with stones. To work more efficiently a double row machine was developed. It has also turned out that  the creation of ridges is easily realized. A hydraulic controller ensures that the trench router can easily be set according to the desired width.
